Nike Unveils the Ja 1 "Day One," Ja Morant's Signature Shoe

Nike unveils the debut signature shoe for Ja Morant, the unstoppable guard who has led the Memphis Grizzlies to the top tier of championship contenders. This "Day One" launch colorway is scheduled to arrive in April 2023.

Ja joins the Nike Basketball family as the newest member of a roster that hasn't seen a new face since Giannis Antetokounmpo's debut in 2019.

The addition of the rising superstar was always in the works for the Swoosh after he signed with the brand in 2019, and the shoe had been in the works for about two years.

However, it cannot be denied that Ja's arrival fills an unexpected void, as the brand has officially ended its partnership with Kyrie Irving.

The Ja 1 is built with a "underdog" mentality.

He wasn't a highly recruited prospect, but he was discovered by chance by Murray State assistant coach James Kane.

Morant's dedication to the game earned him the second overall pick in the crowded 2019 draught, and he's already established himself as a legitimate perennial MVP candidate in just his fourth season.

Ja Morant is Nike Basketball's first "Gen-Z" athlete. This is significant because the brand's current roster of signature stars is somewhat older in comparison to the current crop of young phenoms such as Luka Doncic, Zion Williamson, Trae Young, Anthony Edwards, and others.

The Nike Ja 1 is set to make its debut against the Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day (8pm ET). He wore the purple colorway shown below.
